Health and Safety  -

 

The health and safety of our staff and the young people we work with is central to what we do.  We take this responsibility very seriously, and have clear procedures for ensuring our high standards are met at all times.  We follow the latest standards and guidelines published both by Birmingham City Council and the Department for Children, Schools and Families.

To ensure the safety of the of the students we:

 

• Only use risk assessed field sites and activities
• Only use experienced and appropriately qualified staff leading groups, all staff have been through a CRB check and hold current first aid certificates
• Have regular head counts both during activities and in the Centre
• Through Birmingham City Council have robust personnel systems for the appointment, induction and monitoring of staff, including checking of all appropriate qualifications, references and criminal records
• Run comprehensive induction and training for health and safety issues
• Have Public liability insurance cover for your peace of mind.
• Only use safe vehicles meeting current requirements, such as passenger seat belts and head restraints and have fully trained drivers
• Issue suitable clothing to ensure participants are protected from the elements.
• Birmingham Outdoor Education Centre is registered with The Adventure Activities Licensing Service as licensed to provide specified activities under the following
• headings - Kayaking, Open Canoeing, Paddle Surfing, Improvised Rafting, Sailing, Rock Climbing, Abseiling, Gorge Scrambling, Hill Walking & Mountaineering, Orienteering, Off-Road Cycling, Caving and Mine Exploration.
