About BOEC

The Birmingham Outdoor Education Centre has existed since the early 1970’s, and was formerly known as the Urban Outdoor Education centre. The former Head of Centre Glynn Roberts developed and built a strong reputation across Birmingham for providing quality Outdoor Education provision.

The Centre’s reputation is nationally recognised as developing exciting initiatives for a wide range of ages and abilities.

We are a non-profit making organisation.  Any income generated is used to fund our projects, helping disadvantaged young people in Birmingham.

About Outdoor Learning

Outdoor Learning includes environmental and conservation work as well as outdoor activities.  Outdoor learning happens in the natural environment and uses direct experience, giving our messages impact and credibility.  Research shows outdoor learning provides a powerful and inspirational tool that can provides a breakthrough in learning.

About the Outdoor Learning Service

Birmingham City Council’s Outdoor Learning Service (OLS) runs a range of different learning centres as well as BOEC.  These include four residential centres and a number of day centres, offering a full range of environmental, conservation and adventurous activities. The service offers a range of opportunities for people of all ages to take part in.

The OLS mission statement sets out our aim to provide high quality outdoor learning opportunities for young people and adults - encouraging young people to respect themselves, respect others and respect the environment

Our mission statement is central to what we do, and is reinforced in all of our centres and through all of courses.
